Meet The Dentist in Hillsborough, NC
Dr. Davia Nickelson
Dr. Davia Nickelson is a dedicated and compassionate dentist committed to providing excellent care to her patients. A North Carolina native, she was born and raised in the small town of Stoneville. She pursued her undergraduate studies at the esteemed Elizabeth City State University, earning a degree in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. Her passion for dentistry led her to carry on with her education at the UNC Chapel Hill School of Dentistry, where she acquired her Doctorate of Dental Surgery.
During her time at UNC, Dr. Nickelson honed her skills in comprehensive dental care while developing a deep commitment to service. She actively participated in student-led initiatives and even traveled to Malawi to provide essential dental treatment to underserved communities.
Following dental school, Dr. Nickelson pursued advanced training through a General Practice Residency at UNC Hospitals, expanding her clinical skills in oral surgery, sedation dentistry, and the management of patients with complex medical conditions.
Having dedicated over 10 years working locally in Orange & Durham Counties, Dr. Nickelson fell in love with the community and decided to call Hillsborough her home. She is an active member of the North Carolina Dental Society and Old North State Dental Society and serves on the Orange County Board of Health. Through these roles, she supports initiatives that promote access to quality dental care and improve public health throughout the community.
Beyond her practice, Dr. Nickelson enjoys traveling, especially when she can combine her love for dentistry with her passion for service. Her experiences treating patients in different parts of the country and abroad have given her a broad perspective on patient care, which she brings back to her local community. When she’s not in the office, she cherishes quality time with family and friends.
Dr. Nickelson is excited to welcome patients into a warm, friendly, and professional environment where their smiles are her top priority.
Dr. Nickelson also believes that patient education plays an important role in improving oral health. As part of a conversation hosted by Kenia Thompson, Dr. Nickelson, owner of Complete Smiles of Hillsborough, joined Dr. Natalie Erskine, owner of Diadem Family Dental, to discuss how oral health influences overall well-being, the role of preventive dentistry, and the need to expand Black representation within the dental profession. Dr. Nickelson also serves as an adjunct faculty member at UNC-Chapel Hill’s School of Dentistry, contributing to the education and clinical development of future dentists.
